3D body X-rays in less time with less radiation. Nobel Prize winning ideas being used in everyday life

The French company EOS Imaging founded by physics Nobel Prize winner Georges Charpak researches, develops and produces innovative medical equipment for imaging procedures. This technology, which is based on the discovery made by Georges Charpak, allows 360° 2D and 3D full body X-rays of the patient to be taken. Less than 20 seconds are required to create the X-ray images. At the same time, the radiation is reduced by a tenth compared to conventional technologies. A quantum leap in the orthopaedic diagnostics field.
So what does that have to do with LÜTZE?
LÜTZE is a partner of the company C2E that produces all the cable harnesses for EOS. These link the most important elements of this innovative technology to each other. The motorised cabins are controlled via control cabinets that connect various sensors, power drives, motors and computers to each other.
C2E, which has a headcount of 110 in two French plants in Savoyen and in the Departement Deux-Sèvres and a headcount of 550 in a further plant in Tunisia, set itself the goal of creating a standard in the cable field and was searching for cable partners that could meet the technical specifications stipulated by EOS Imaging.
The managing director of C2E Gasnier summarised the search for partners as follows: "I had heard about LÜTZE's performance as a supplier of electro-technology and electronics (control cabinets, prefabricated parts, automation solutions), but I was not aware of the extent of their know-how. During the course of further talks, I found out that LÜTZE is involved in a wide range of projects in various fields and frequently realises forward-thinking technologies and solutions (agriculture, railway, ...). “
The challenge for LÜTZE in this case was to supply a series of cables that not only satisfied the technical specifications, but were also compliant with the UL and European standards.
LÜTZE cables made the difference because they fully satisfied the special technical aspects associated with the specific purpose.
Very special conditions
Another difficulty were the very special conditions. For example, the moving parts of the EOS devices for radiology are equipped with special C-tracks, other cables need to be installed close to motor cables - and all this in a medical environment in which the cables must be absolutely clean. Also, no halogen cables could be used.
It was imperative that no information was lost due to electromagnetic interference or any other reasons. LÜTZE cables satisfied all these precise criteria right down to the last detail.
In the meantime, a new project has been started which allows pregnant women and children under the age of 6 access to this type of imaging - with a radiation level that is 20 times lower!
No doubt, LÜTZE will play a role in future projects of this kind, thereby making a contribution to basic research and ultimately improving our day-to-day lives.
